A few kilometers north of Paroikia, the coastal village of Naousa has become the touristic center of the island, while still maintaining its original colour. The visitor is welcomed at the entrance of the village by a 17th century monastery of Saint Athanasios, a special building which have hosted both orthodox and catholic monks at certain times, but the most sensational place is the scenic old port, with the colourful local boats and the half-sunken ruins of the Venetian castle, which create a unique and pleasant picture. This little port gathers Naousa's nightlife, since the old fishermen warehouses have now become small bars and ouzeri.
